Wedding Planning Tips For A Bride-to-Be

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

YOU GUYS.

I'M ENGAGED.

On this day in 2011, this young boy said to me, "so i've been thinking..... we should go out, make this official." And here we are.. 8 years later planning a wedding together.

It's such a crazy & wild thing to know that you want to spend the rest of your life with just one single person... and eventually have mini versions of them and yourself. What a thing.

Anyone who knows me knows I love planning.. and when it comes to wedding planning? Let's just say it's my frikin favorite thing to do.
I've been engaged since May of last year and have only put a limited amount of things into action.. but I've already learned a plethora of things along the way.

The BIGGEST most largest piece of advice I can tell all of you bride to be's, soon to be's, & any kind of be's, there is no way...... no way in hell itself, you can make everyone pleased and happy. You can try your DARNDEST but I promise, there will always be someone who doesn't agree somewhere, and thats okay because hi, not their wedding. So please don't tire and stress yourself about wanting to please everyone whether that be your mom, dad, fiancés grandma, a bridesmaid, your dad's brothers sons girlfriend. In the beginning AND end, your happiness is the only one that counts. (and maybe your significant others ;)

2. The first thing I did was create a secret pinterest board to visualize the vision in my head.

3. Decide on what you want to splurge on, and don't stress about the rest. My top 3 are photographer, venue, food+dress. (so 4 things)

4. It is never too early to book anything. Vendors and venues book fast so do the research first, tour, then book.

5. You'll be surprised with who knows who, don't be shy to ask around for vendor recommendations.

6. Friday + Sunday are much cheaper days for a wedding.

7. Add some personal touches! It's nice to have you and your fiancés personality show through on your big day.

8. Bridesmaid gifts can get pricccceeeeyyyyy. Think hard before you pick your girl power crew.

9. Create a wedding website! It's super fun and it can be easy for your guests to find some information about the big day, or about you and your soon to be forever ;) I did mine through Zola and I look at it about 16 times a day because I love it so much :) https://www.zola.com/wedding/newlydickinsons

10. Everyone knows weddings are expensive as hell, negotiating price is always an option and never hurts to ask.

11. Attempt to DIY some projects! Saves money in the long run & can be a fun little bonding experience.

12. Check with your preferred photographer first about their availability before setting a date!

13. To keep yourself organized, make a little online timeline or a journal keeping to help you stay on track.

14. Bigger wedding doesn't always mean better. Sometimes less is more.

15. Don't hesitate to cut down on allowed plus ones. Your charged by the plate, so cutting 20-30 people could save you a shit ton of money.

16. Check with the venue to see if a day of coordinator is provided! If not, fitting one in your budget is a definite must.

17. Go with your GUT on your dress. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you wear. Your family and friends will think you're gorgeous regardless & you're the one that's going to look back on the pictures forever.

18. It's fun to go ham on your wedding, but at the end of the day, don't forget it's about spending the rest of your life with the one you love most. So with that in mind..

19. Save on the wedding, splurge on the honeymoon.

20. You're only engaged once, say the word fiancé as much as your little or huge heart desires!

21. Something WILL go wrong. As long as you have that in the back of your mind, you'll be okay & your problem solving skills will come in FULL effect.

I promise things will 100% fall in to place... maybe not now, but eventually ;) (or at least that's what I keep telling myself) ✨
xoxo, S.
